The much-loved, influential, pre-Special Edition Star Wars trilogy deserves nothing less than a fully-anamorphic release to your highest standards possible this time. |
19 | John Vinci | Ca, USA | December 10, 2009 | I haven't seen a a decent copy of Star Wars since 1995, or since my Laser Disc player broke down. I would love to see the origial version of these films in all their glory once more! |

35 | Brian Combe | Scotland, United Kingdom | December 10, 2009 |
While I am signing this request for a best possible release of the
original theatrical editions of the Original Star Wars trilogy on
Blu-Ray. I still wish request the same degree of restoration for a DVD
release as well. The current DVD release was very long coming and ultimately disappointing. The general quality control on the release of both the original theatrical versions and the special edition release undermined the trust in both Lucasfilm and 20th Century Fox of many people who purchased those sets. The Star Wars films are major cultural artifacts and should be presented in the best way possible. They have rightfully earned their place in cinema history and when the public want to pay money to purchase them they should be able to buy the highest quality presentation. |
36 | Doug Irving | MI, USA | December 10, 2009
37 | Ben Payton | CO, USA | December 10, 2009 | The theatrical cuts are a crucial part of history, regardless of what Lucas thinks. |

45 | Wade Wieser | NJ, usa | December 10, 2009 | STAR WARS was my childhood. We just want to see it exactly as it was, in the best possible way. |
46 | Erik Paniccia | IL, United States | December 10, 2009 |
Ridley Scott did it with his marvelous "Blade Runner" 5-disc Blu-Ray.
Even your friend Steven Spielberg did it with his equally amazing
3-disc "Close Encounters of the Third Kind" Blu-Ray. Please do it for us with the "Star Wars" trilogy. |
47 | Tim Sutton | AL, 35179 | December 10, 2009
48 | David Gunn | CA, USA | December 10, 2009
49 | Spencer Draper | FL, USA | December 10, 2009 | Star Wars changed my life and I would gladly appreciate the chance to go back and experience it again in both the original forms and the 1997 Special Edition. Both of these exist in forms that are not technically acceptable today. For both I still use a VHS set. AS the petition states a Blade Runner-esque restored release would be incredible. A true "Definitive Collection" with restored versions of the original theatrical releases, the 1997 Special Edition Trilogy, and definitive versions. Thank you for your time. |
50 | Niall Hagan | VA, US | December 10, 2009 | The Star Wars original trilogy is my favorite set of films and they deserve the same respect that other great classics get. |

58 | Jacob McClure | MN, USA | December 11, 2009 | Star Wars is an icon of pop culture that changed entertainment media, merchandising, and literally generations of people. It deserves to be historically preserved and archived in the highest quality. Fans WANT the original versions. Not to replace your definitive version, but to complement it! Who doesn't like to see early drafts of art or writing? It is an insight into the creative process. PLEASE do not let the versions first released to the public disappear into obscurity! |
59 | Paul Tomlinson | staffordshire, england | December 11, 2009
60 | Kory Koester | MN, 56547 | December 11, 2009 |
For me to purchase another release of the Original "Star Wars" Trilogy
in home video format, the original unaltered editions must be included
and properly restored. I believe there is no reason not to include a
restored trilogy alongside a "Special Edition" release becuase, as
stated, other directors have already done so with their respective
films. Also, because of the Original "Star Wars" Trilogy's impact on both film and culture, I strongly believe not restoring the orginal films soon would be hugely irresponsible and, as a result, would deny future generations the opportunity of experiencing the flims as others who saw them for the first time when the films were originally released. Thank you. |
61 | Marina Montes | WA, USA | December 11, 2009 | Bring back the old Star Wars! |
62 | Peter Lopez | NY, USA | December 11, 2009 | ...or please don't cloud up the way of the preservationists who take up the challenge. |
63 | Michael Madaychik | FL, United States | December 11, 2009 | The Definitive Collection was a state of the art laserdisc box set of the original Star Wars trilogy...in 1993, not 2009. |
64 | Richard Luciano | TX, United States of America | December 11, 2009
65 | Michael Kaminski | Ontario, Canada | December 11, 2009

69 | Robert Kuntz | ND, USA | December 11, 2009 | Thank you for giving us Star Wars! I completely understand the desire to rework something you weren't totally satisfied with, but also plead that you recognise the importance of the original theatrical cuts of these films (both to the fans and to film history) |
70 | john connor | arizona, usa | December 11, 2009 | please mr. lucas give us fans what we so desperately want thank you |
71 | Frank Vallone | NJ, USA | December 11, 2009 |
Dear Mr. Lucas: Please show us fans some respect and give us the opportunity to view the "Star Wars" Trilogy as it was originally released. Remember: if it hadn't been for us fans, the films would never have been as successful as they ultimately became. I think that you owe us at least that much. Thank you. |

76 | Matt Fitch | England, UK | December 11, 2009
77 | Craig lenti | NY, USA | December 11, 2009 | I very much like the "new" version. Mentioning Blade Runner is a definite "plus" and IMHO, that should be the defining release. |
78 | Jari Juutilainen | Länsi-Suomi, Finland | December 11, 2009
79 | Mira Hyvönen | Länsi-Suomi, Finland | December 11, 2009

82 | Stephen Caldwell | Wi, USA | December 11, 2009 | Thank You |
83 | Geoff Burrows | Middlesex, England | December 11, 2009 | Mr. Lucas, I admire your films greatly. Would you please consider releasing the theatrical versions on blu-ray (in their original color platettes) that we saw in cinemas and fell in love with as children? |
84 | Ming Pan | Ca, USA | December 11, 2009 | I rather have Star Wars Revisited be released as the definitive editions of the Star Wars Trilogy. |
85 | karl Nicholson | England, UK | December 11, 2009
86 | David Wilder | Alberta, Canada | December 11, 2009 | I'd be happy having the original Laser disc quality releases without any "special edition" editing! |
87 | Anthony DiPaola | New Jersey, USA | December 11, 2009 | Please, give the OOT the respect is so rightfuly deserves on Blu-Ray. Also include the original mono track for the original 1977 theatrical version of A New Hope and please fix the lightsaber colors for the SEs. |
88 | Bret Lonsway | CA, USA | December 11, 2009 | These three films (in all of their versions) are now historical documents and cultural icons, and should be treated as such. |
89 | Lee Ridgard | Derbyshire, England | December 11, 2009 | If it is true that the Blu-ray releases re going to be archival we need to have the theatrical cut as well as the HD remastered version and all of the deleted scenes as well. |
90 | Teemu Kemppainen | ---, Finland | December 11, 2009
91 | Leland Bruneau | AB, Canada | December 11, 2009

94 | Darren Johnston | Newtownabbey, Northern Ireland | December 11, 2009 | Mr Lucas life's to short , PLEASE release the Original Trilogy unaltered but with remastered picture quality. Please. |
95 | A Kunst | South Holland, The Netherlands | December 11, 2009 |
Althought i am pretty satisfied with the dvds i own now (except for the
blue hue and the ending of Episode 6) and have not seen the 'official
original' or even the '97 version, i do have something to say. I would be pretty pissed off if i saw the original i saw as a kid, be transformed in something completely different. I can relate with people who experienced something like this. So please Lucasfilm / Mister Lucas, restore the original in a good quality, not in a quality like on the 2006 bonus dvd. Thank you. |
96 | Tom Rogers | NY, USA | December 11, 2009
97 | Robe Pettigrew | Alberta, Canada | December 11, 2009 |
I'd be happy to buy copies of both released versions George, just let
us remember what we saw in the theater as kids, be able to be seen and
shown to our children as well. Thanks! Robe |
98 | Dan Hendrickson | AZ, United States | December 11, 2009 | In a further addendum to the petition, I would ask that the theatrical films be released with authentic color timing and all original sound mixes, monaural, stereo, and most importantly the superior 70mm 6-channel versions. |

104 | thomas schneider | fl, usa | December 12, 2009
105 | Richard Lee | CA, USA | December 12, 2009 | deleted scenes of Tatooine from A New Hope would be awesome too. |
106 | Andrew Eisen | CA, United States | December 12, 2009 | A DVD release of the original versions of these films would be most appreciated. |
107 | Aram Anthony | CA, USA | December 12, 2009 | Mr. Lucas, Let me be clear: I have given you a lot of cash over the years. Yet your refusal to care for these films in the manner that they deserve is not only disrespectful of history, it's disrespectful of the hard work I performed in order to earn the money that I then spent on your films and DVDs. Inclusion of the unaltered original trilogy films in HI-DEF QUALITY is the ONLY way I will purchase the Blu-Ray versions of these films. If they're not included, I will spend my money elsewhere. |
108 | Earl Borah | OR, USA | December 12, 2009 | I'm glad to have the originals on DVD, though I was disappointed somewhat at the quality of the transfer. While I appreciate many of the changes you made to the original theatrical releases of the original trilogy and would not ask you to abandon them, I do not intend to purchase ANY additional copies of Star Wars in any format unless the original theatrical versions are included in the highest quality available. |
109 | Jonathan Lack | Colorado, USA | December 12, 2009
110 | Brian Depp | PA, USA | December 12, 2009
111 | Constantine Nasr | CA, USA | December 12, 2009 | Thank you for your consideration of this request. I look forward to getting rid of my old VHS and laserdisc copies of some of my favorite films and seeing them in as close a way as I can remember to my childhood theatrical experiences. |
112 | mark Borrero | ca, usa | December 12, 2009
113 | Jeremy Latour | MA, United States | December 12, 2009 | Very well said. You could call it the "Archive Editions." |
114 | Sharif Mansour | OH, USA | December 12, 2009 | Prefer new editions, still need unaltered trilogy. Please. |
115 | Robert Huckell | CA, USA | December 12, 2009 | The original versions allow me to relive my childhood in a way the special editions cannot. It would mean a lot to me if the versions I prefer could be made available. |
116 | Brian Campus | Illinois, USA | December 12, 2009
117 | Joey Rao | Ontario, Canada | December 12, 2009 | Pretty please. |

122 | Eddie Jaszek | CA, USA | December 12, 2009
123 | Dennis Gonzalez | Nevada, USA | December 12, 2009 | From the old videodiscs and Beta tapes to DVD, I've never stopped enjoying these films. A proper transfer of the trilogy on Blu-Ray would be great gift for film lovers everywhere. |
124 | Dan Revill | BC, Canada | December 12, 2009 |
I would love to see these preserved on Blu-ray - remastered and in anamorphic widescreen! That would make 2010 totally epic win! |
125 | Keith Stonefield | Hawaii, USA | December 12, 2009 | It is with fond and vivid memories that I remember walking into my local Cinerama theater in 1977 when I was ten years old and being wowed by the first scene. I've never seen anything like that in a theater, much less anywhere else. Although I'm in my 40s now, I do not want to get too old without being able to view these Original Trilogy treasures on Blu-ray! I now want my son to be able to at least see what Dad saw (albeit not on the "big" screen but at least with the best picture and sound) that hooked him forever! Thank you! |
126 | Mark Tetreault | DE, 19901 | December 12, 2009
127 | Alex Kalb | CA, USA | December 12, 2009
128 | Derek Bartholomaus | California, USA | December 12, 2009
129 | Brian Gregory | MD, United States | December 12, 2009
130 | Vince Butler | CA, USA | December 12, 2009 | PLEASE OH PLEASE release the original trilogy (non-special edition) on Blu-ray without the quality control errors that plagued the previous DVD releases (mis-colored lightsabers, flipped surrounds during the trench run, etc). I'm sure everyone on this petition would be happy to pay a premium for a Blu-ray release that includes a high-quality version of the films along with the special edition, similar to the Blade Runner release or the E.T. DVD release from a few years ago. |
131 | Scott Perry | WA, United States | December 12, 2009 | I'm a filmmaker. i appreciate director's cuts, but I like my Star Wars without CGI. I prefer not to buy anymore Star Wars transfers unless there's a care for the unaltered versions. Don't rewrite history George! |

136 | Mike Bauer | TX, USA | December 12, 2009
137 | Michel Morand | Ontario, Canada | December 12, 2009
138 | Greg Method | OH, USA | December 12, 2009 | The original "Star Wars" trilogy is a cultural landmark. For twenty years they kept kids and adults imagining and entertained. Revising and updating one's work of art is fine to a point, but it shouldn't be done to replace or withdraw the entities everyone grew up on and pretend that they didn't exist. To use an example of another form of art, the entire Beatles catalog was recently remastered from the original elements, and they were released in both stereo and mono because they knew that many people enjoyed the more-primative sounding mono versions for what they were. The original cuts of the "Star Wars" films were the ones that made them endearing and historical, and they deserve to be treated and released with as much as given to the special editions...clean them up, remaster them in anamorphic widescreen, strike new digital prints. Let the fans decide which version they want to own on Blu-ray. |
139 | mike rudolf | la, usa | December 12, 2009
140 | Mike Guyder | SC, USA | December 12, 2009 |
Mr. Lucas, This would be a nice bonus to have the unaltered '77,'80, & '83 versions on Blu. Along side the Prequels and Special Edition trilogies. |
141 | Travis Kline | MO, United States | December 12, 2009 | As a lifelong fan of Star Wars it pains my to not be able to expose my children to the magical films that helped shape my childhood. Please preserve these wonderful films in their theatrical form so that my children and my children's children will know that Han shoots first! |

146 | Ralph Thomas | CT, USA | December 12, 2009 | Some of my fondest memories from my childhood involve these films. I've passed Star Wars "fever" to my younger brother, and my children. Although I enjoy the Special Editions as well, some of the features removed or altered from the originals happen to be what I remember most from the films. Please give us the opportunity to see your masterpieces in their original glory. Thank you. |
147 | Lino Natola | BC, Canada | December 12, 2009 | When I first watched The Star Wars Trilogy as a four year old, there was only one version, The Original Version. I want to be able to watch it at the highest quality. |
148 | James Waldie | MI, USA | December 12, 2009 |

158 | Raymond Hagy | Delaware, United States | December 12, 2009
159 | Hamdi Abu-Zalaf | New South Wales, Australia | December 12, 2009 | As much as I have been lenient towards every re-issue of the Star Wars films and (at times reluctantly) supportive of the prequel films and shows - it is essential to moviedom entirely, that the Original Trilogy be preserved and included on for the Blu-ray format in all of its restored HD glory. Vital for future generations to realise HOW Star Wars initially came to us in 1977 and beyond :-) |

172 | Benjamin Schempp | IA, United States | December 12, 2009
173 | Damon Thrift | MN, USA | December 12, 2009 | There is no reason why these aren't out on Blu ray yet and the original, unaltered EP 4-6 have never been released on DVD or Blu ray. |
174 | Daniel Buckley | NJ, USA | December 12, 2009 | Bring back the original Star Wars. Not Episode IV A New Hope. |
175 | Nick Martin | Ontario, Canada | December 12, 2009 | These films are a vital piece of motion picture history and must be preserved on the best format possible. They can easily co-exist with the revisions. |

I love all three primary versions of the Trilogy. But I do feel the original version needs to be preserved for a few important reasons. -Historical documentation -Education on the evolution of film making and ILM -It would be profitable for Lucasfilm. The demand is obviously there. Thank you for your time. |

Mr Lucas Since I was born in 1990 I have been more drawn to your Special Edition versions of the Star Wars trilogy and the prequel trilogy - and they were amazing. I think that the original versions should be fully re-mastered and be presented in the same aspect ratio as the newer edits. These can be looked back on and admired by film fans and historians in the future and it shows respect for the films when they were made. I agree that the definite versions are the new edits, but I still think that the old versions should be showcased. A lot of people, including yourself, had worked so hard to get them completed for the years that they were released in and they are the crowning jewels of the decades that they were a part of - the 70s and 80s. Thank You Sir |

372 | Erik Chapin | WA, USA | December 13, 2009 | Mr. Lucas, without the original theatrical versions of the Star Wars trilogy, you wouldn't have been able to build your very own empire and would not have had the influence on so much of cinema today. I think it a shame that you've shelved them in favor of versions that make you feel more satisfied. Your comrade, Mr. Spielberg was kind enough to release all three versions of Close Encounters on Blu-ray, to allow us the fans to see it's transformation over time and to choose which version we prefer. Don't you think it's time that Star Wars get the same respect? I know they're your babies, but they're ours too. |

A full restoration of the films presented on blu-ray is long overdue and a release containing all the alternate versions (from the 1977 mono mix of Star Wars and the 70mm cut of Empire Strikes Back to the 1997 Special Editions and the 2004 DVD versions) would be a fitting celebration of the Star Wars saga. |
434 | Dave Mueller | Pennsylvania, United States | December 13, 2009 |
The Special Editions can be considered the 'correct' versions of the films, but its not like 'Star Wars' was redone in 1981 after the fat money from 'Empire' started rolling in. Star Wars existed in its original form for twenty years. You can't just sweep that under the rug. While you might not have been 100% satisfied with the finished product at the time, that is the film that (in its original, unpolished form) inspired the imaginations of an entire world and changed filmmaking. It deserves to be archived as it was-if only for its place in the history of cinema. And don't worry: I'd buy both versions on Blu-ray. |

Knowing most of us Star Wars fans, we will end up buying both the special editions and the originals. It would just be great to have both versions to compare and contrast. Don't have the original versions be "bonus features", feature them right alongside the Special Editions in brilliant anamorphic high-definition quality. |

565 | Thomas Friedman | FL, USA | December 15, 2009 | I believe it is essential that scholars such as myself (social sciences) have all versions to examine: differences in dialogue, new ideas of what is considered appropriate set dressing, scenery design and special effects so that we can begin to understand how the years have changed the nature of how film makers view their craft and how audiences react to same. |

A Blu-Ray box set of all the Star Wars films with all versions of each film in 1080p, would be awesome. I would buy that, and only that, if it came out. Any chance the Star Wars TV Holiday Special can be added as well? That does not have to be in high def. :-) |

I fully support the campaign efforts by the fine folks at originaltrilogy.com BRING BACK THE ORIGINAL, UNALTERED STAR WARS TRILOGY and preserve it right beside the Special Edition. They both belong together inside a Blu Ray boxed set with as much behind the scenes material that Lucasfilm can squeeze inside! |
633 | sam Beavis | berkshire, United Kingdom | December 15, 2009 | Saw the "special edition" of Jedi on TV the other day and it just reminded me how I felt back in the cinema in 1997, hating every single one of the pathetic, redundant, senseless changes that were made to all three films. I'm too young to have ever seen the original films in the cinema. The closest I can get is to re-create that experience in my home. Please, please, please, will someone provide us with a definitive dvd to do this?!! I don't believe any of the technical excuses spouted by Lucas film. The only stumbling block I can see is stubbornness and a bizarre inability by Mr Lucas to seemingly understand why his own original creation worked so well. Don't worry about it George - trust us! use the force, make the fracking dvds, and pocket some more dollars! Everyone wins |

It makes complete and perfect sense for films allocated such a prominent position in the medium's history, to actually BE available (which, in their original, initially incepted forms - that is, the condition which actually brought about such cultural preeminence - they are NOT). It was the primary, unaltered versions of the Star Wars films which allowed for the social absorption that has resulted in the enormous success of the Star Wars films and the wider franchise of Star Wars books, games, toys, TV shows, etc. Thus, through the non-release of these editions, it seems that a great perversion has occured, and an enormous disrespect has been made. I hope that this can be rectified. |

I have been a big fan of the original Star Wars trilogy since I was 4 years old, when I saw Empire Strikes Back (the first of the three that I saw). These movies are beloved by many people. I enjoyed elements of the Special Edition, like the cleaned up special effects and the enhanced sound, but there were things that detracted from the movie, like making Greedo shoot first, having Han walk on Jabba, and having Hayden Christensen be Anakin redeemed. The first two things were basically changing characters (changing Han, to be less, well, scum-ish, and making Jabba someone that people can just walk all over, pun intended), but the third just bothered me a little. Thank you for listening to me rant! |

722 | Reinhard Andriske | NRW, Germany | December 18, 2009 | I grew up with Star Wars, and I liked it the way it was. I can't get along with the new versions and the prequel movies. They kinda destroyed a childhood's dream. |
723 | Michael Hart | CA, USA | December 18, 2009 | The original Star Wars film and its two sequels were completely awesome and way ahead of their time. It was fun to see the changes in the special editions, but the changes seem to be mostly a distraction that don't really add anything to the story. The original Star Wars trilogy is a classic and it should be preserved. I only wish the new trilogy kept the same look and feel to it. Everything is too smooth and new looking and looks like a modern day video game. Thank you for completing them regardless! :-) |

733 | Dennis K. | Lower Saxony, Germany | December 19, 2009 | I find it very sad that there is only the Special Edition (SE) from 2004 supposed to last. This causes much controversy among fans, especially between those who grew up with the unaltered version (like me) and mostly younger fans who like the SEs better. Therefore, I strongly support the proposal of providing all existing versions of the Original Trilogy (OT) on future Bluray (or other) publications and make an end to the infinite discussion about the definitive edition of the OT. |

Please recognize that the 'old school' fans who have supported you since opening day want the classic UNALTERED versions of these films. Refusing to do so not only DOESN"T make sense financially, but it also feels like a slap in the face to those who truly recognize the originals as the masterpieces they truly are. Thank you. All fans kept Star Wars alive after Return of the Jedi was finished for years waiting patiently that a prequel trilogy would be made, and it was. These are the movies families grew up on, and isnt that why you left movies for awhile? To raise your family? Without fans loving your movies, Star Wars wouldnt be the Star Wars that it is today. We are owed this simple request and are tired of being slapped in the face. These are our movies as much as they are yours. Sincerely, Robert P McQueen |

Mr Lucas- As steward of "Star Wars", you would make an immense amount of people extremely happy were you to release in acceptable quality the original version of your films - flaws and all - on DVD, Bluray, and whatever format may succeed them. The fact is, the original pictures are a cultural icon that everyone should be able to partake in. Their success is what enabled you to become an extraordinarily successful independent filmmaker, and you owe it to the next generation of moviegoers to allow them the chance to see your movies as they were without having to resort to seeking out obscure websites or paying exorbitant sums to hunt down LaserDiscs, or eventually, the 'limited edition' DVDs released in 2006. Ultimately, as a person dedicated to film preservation and as a maverick outsider to the studio system, the person you owe a real release of the original, unaltered trilogy the most is - you. Respectfully yours, Eli Bildirici |

I saw "Empire" in the theater (I was only 3) and it scared the hell of me. That experience has always stayed with me. Fairy tales used to frighten children (and they were meant to). James Cameron has released "T2" on DVD 3 times and 2 times on Blu-ray Disc. Each version was a little more "tweaked" than the last (but the original version was always included). We bought all of those, too. We (the "Fans") would gladly purchase every new "enhanced" version of your films on endless formats (with new scenes and better audio/video quality) without complaint as long as the orginal versions were included (restored and in the best possible quality). Please release your original movies on Blu-ray with the best possible picture and sound ("1080p" and "DTS-HD Master Audio"). We will buy them. |

861 | Tracey Walker | WV, USA | December 31, 2009 | one of my earliest memories is of watching A New Hope. I will never forget the wonder and joy of seeing Luke blow the Death Star into smithereens. These films changed my life, and they did it all without the ridiculous over-CGId filler. Give me the terrible effects and the obvious models. They were cutting edge for the time. Some things look better when touched up a bit, but changing an entire sequence for the sake of showing off how good your CGI department is will not add anything to the story. Constantly re-doing something for the sake of re-doing it is not progress; it is beating a dead horse. Let the trilogy stand for itself, and stop with the ridiculous distractions. |
862 | Jesus Ramos | Madrid, Spain | December 31, 2009 | It would also be good if he could redo the new trilogy, it is no secret that fans find it... disturbing. But I know that's too much to ask. |
